Greenlight are pleased to announce that our team has expanded with a new recruit joining us! Here is a profile on Rosie Langton, our new Assistant Ecologist.
Previous Experience
Rosie has always had a passion for protecting UK wildlife, through growing up on a farm surrounded by the English countryside to both her parents being ecologists. They are both a major inspiration for her pursuing a career in this field.
Roise graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2024 with a BSc in Ecology and Conservation which led to an interest in protected species work and habitat management.
For her dissertation, she researched how Great Crested Newt metapopulations respond to pond management and terrestrial habitat reversion. She also first began working with Greenlight during the 2023 bat survey season as a subcontractor, gaining experience in bat survey work and field data collection.
Later on, she joined as a Season Assistant Ecologist where she carried out reptile surveys, Great Crested Newt eDNA surveys, and assisted with bat surveys across East Anglia.
This role helped Rosie build practical fieldwork skills, species identification experience, and an understanding of ecological survey methodologies and reporting.
Ecologist Job Description
For her new role, Rosie is involved in carrying out ecological surveys in development sites to assess existing habitats and evaluate their potential to support protected species. She then uses this information to produce detailed reports for clients, providing them with advice and recommendations.
During her time so far at Greenlight, Rosie has conducted surveys including PEA, BNG, PRA, nocturnal bat surveys, hibernating bat surveys, and badger surveys.
Rosie is keen to expand her knowledge in the world of ecology. She is particularly looking forward to developing her fieldwork and reporting skills through training with her colleagues at Greenlight, as well as gaining more hands-on experience.
In addition to this, she is also working towards obtaining her Level 1 bat licence. This will allow her to build up her expertise in bat ecology and contribute more independently to survey work.
Rosies Hobbies & Ambitions
Rosie’s main hobbies are photography, hiking, travelling, and plant-based cooking, all of which tie closely into her love for the outdoors and the natural world. When it comes to her photography, she loves combining it with long walks, capturing landscapes, and changing coastal scenery.
A long-term personal goal of hers is to walk the entire English coastline section by section over time. This summer, she is aiming to complete the Norfolk Coastal Path across several weekends.
Not only does Rosie enjoy the outdoors, her cooking is also another creative outlet where she loves to experiment with plant-based recipes inspired by different cultures and places she has visited.
Rosie’s ambitions stay committed to ecology, aiming to continue to grow within Greenlight and to develop into a fully-fledged ecologist. She’s motivated by the opportunity to contribute positively to wildlife conservation and habitat protection.
