Bird Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (“PEA”)

What Is a Bird Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (“PEA”)?

A bird Preliminary Ecological Appraisal is an initial site assessment that is vital to identify habitats present on site that may support protected species. Taken as the first step to address ecological aspects of a planning application, it simply includes a site visit and a desktop assessment. The survey establishes the presence of suitable habitats for both breeding and wintering birds by conduction a walkover survey on the side.

When Can a Bird Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (“PEA”) be Undertaken?

This type of survey can be conducted throughout the year.  A preliminary ecology appraisal for birds involves assessing the building and site for evidence such as nests, droppings and much more. As a result of a PEA, a report would recommend if further bird surveys were necessary and what appropriate mitigation and enhancements needed for the proposed development.
